This may come as a surprise to some, but there is a difference between working out and training. While one is not better than the other in a vacuum, one will deliver the results you are looking for. In fact, one of the big signs to gauge if your working out or training is the lack of results. Because training is done with a specific objective in mind, it tends to lead to being able to evaluate the results of said training. On the contrary, as with working out…when you don’t know where your going, any road will get you there.
“Working out is a random approach to fitness without any direction toward specific goals; Show up at the gym, do a bunch of work and cross your fingers that results will appear tomorrow.” – Tim DiFrancesco
One of the things we take pride in here at WASC is delivering a well thought out training protocol that supports your fitness goals. We realize a well designed protocol that considers factors such as a person’s age, gender, experience and goals delivers accurate results. With that being said, it helps when we work in a partnership with our members. When we collaborate to work towards a goal we can get there quicker, more efficiently and without guessing.
Here are some things you can do to make sure you are participating in a collaborative approach to training.
1. LOG. I know it can be a pain in the ass to log, but if we want to see if were improving, we need some form of measurement. It does not always need to be centered around time, weight etc… you can get labs done, measure your flexibility, sleep, etc….
2. Communicate with us. Letting us know your short and long term goals is extremely helpful. It can help us make individual changes within a group format to support your goals.
3. Take advantage of all our services !!!
4. Consistency. You want to know what the worst training program is? ….The one your not doing. Place so much VALUE in your health and wellness that you don’t let excuses get in the way of showing up. One way to do this is to think of how all the meaningful things in your life get impacted as your health and wellness improves.
